Coco Gauff admitted:

“The things I’m working on in practice aren’t translating to the match court.”

That’s not weakness.

That’s a structural issue.

Matches don’t test strokes.

They test systems under pressure.

1️⃣ THE TRANSFER PROBLEM

In practice:

  • No real scoreboard tension

  • No public consequence

  • Errors don’t hurt

In matches:

  • 30-30 changes breathing

  • 5-4 alters timing

  • Break points change identity

If pressure isn’t simulated, it isn’t learned.

2️⃣ SPECIFIC DRILLS

🔹 30-30 Simulation

Every game starts at 30-30.
Two consecutive lost points → restart.

🔹 Closing Drill

Start sets at 4-4.
Every service game is “for the match.”

🔹 Anti-Early Ball Drill

Opponent attacks every short ball.
Must hit deep beyond service line.

🔹 Decision Drill

Every fourth shot must change rhythm or accelerate.
